Cuban Pastries

Whenever I visit my Dad, I look forward to eating specialties that are  found only in the area where he lives.  When he took me to the bakery all I had with me was my cell phone, but I still had to take some photos…

I’m not sure what these are called, but they are filled with creme, the outside is made with phyllo dough, and it has a crispy thin crust of the most delicious thing you can imagine!

This is flan, which you have probably had in the past… but not like this!

These are filled with guava and made from millions many layers of phyllo dough.
When you bite into them, it is so good that you begin to smile almost immediately.

These are my favorite!!!
They are filled with a meat mixture that is so delicious!
When you take a bite, a symphony begins to play in your mouth
of sweet phyllo dough,
with salty filling,
all nice and warm.

Have I made you hungry?!

Happy eating! 🙂

Have a terrific weekend!

The Lincoln Memorial

This summer we were able to go to DC.

The Lincoln Memorial had to be my favorite stop.
It was amazing to me that even though there were many people there,
everyone was silent.
The words inscribed on the walls of marble were read by most of us there.
It was so inspiring and I think everyone there left with a new appreciation for
this man, Abraham Lincoln.

The carving is truly magnificent.
It took four years to complete the statue.

On the first floor, below the statue, there is a small museum with videos,
photographs, and the history of this time in our country.

Keep in mind that the statue is 19 feet high.

This is one of the side hallways.
The Washington Monument and the Capitol Building are seen in the distance.

Abraham Lincoln has always been one of my favorite historical figures.
His speeches and writings are filled with a timeless sense of integrity,
honesty, and patriotism.

Visiting this memorial was a special day I won’t soon forget!

Have a wonderful, blessed week!

At the Beach

I blogged about the ocean & its effect not long ago when I wrote about our trip to Venice Beach, FL.

Last week I was blessed to be at a Conference which took place at a hotel right on the beach.
Clearwater Beach.
It was beautiful and though I didn’t get to spend as much time near the water as I like, I did get to go on walks along the shore and take some pictures.

There were opportunities for those who just wanted to sit and get their toes wet…

There were the usual birds…

You could see for miles, literally…

There were all kind of activities going on in the water and on the sand…

I even walked past a wedding that was about to take place but couldn’t take a photo…privacy and all that.

I could have walked for hours…

Just before I turned to go back, I saw a few still enjoying the water before the sun set.  This looks like fun!  Maybe next time.

Have a terrific week!
