I’ve been working on this quilt on & off for a while and finally pieced it together.
It was fun!
I chose fabrics that I had in my stash, most of which I’d bought at WalMart. I bought some extra to make sure I had enough variety.
Quilts don’t have to be expensive… the most I paid was $2 yard!
It is a bright & cheery quilt with mostly yellows/blues/greens… one of my favorite combinations.
The “pattern” I chose to do is called a “Disappearing Nine Patch”.
It’s great for any skill level.
I sewed the fabrics into strips of 3. They strips measured 6 in x 45 in.
I then cut the long strips into 6 in. strips, and sewed three random strips together to make a mock 9-square patch.
I then cut the 9-patch block down the center, both vertically & horizontally.
I put together random blocks, flipping them and trying to keep seams from meeting other seams…
Putting different fabrics together is what makes it fun.
The look I was going for was a totally random, unplanned look.
Sewing the squares together and then the strips went quickly.
I enjoyed the bright fabrics. I love blues.
Here’s a closer look…
Now, all I have to do is hand quilt it!
I picture evenings on the couch, while “watching” TV…
Have fun quilting,
or, if you don’t quilt,
enjoy the warmth of a cozy quilt.

That is really very pretty. Well done!
Thanks so much!
Beautiful!!! Best, Mtetar
Thank you!
You’re always welcome. Mtetar
Daisy, I love this color combination! It is so warm and cheery… nice work!

Thanks, Wendy. It’s not a typical “winter” quilt, but I started it during summer. 🙂
That is such a happy, delightful quilt, love it!
You’re very kind 🙂
It is very lovely. I am discovering that I enjoy quilting also… 🙂
That’s great! It’s lots of fun and a good outlet for creativity.
Sorry if this is a repeat … I might have hit enter before finishing. I love the blue and yellow fabrics! I made a black and white quilt using the disappearing nine patch pattern. I like it because it looks complicated but it’s so easy for a beginner like me.
Yes, that’s one of the reasons I used this pattern. I’m trying to make up my mind on which one to do next… 🙂
Great color palette!
It’s been fun to work with these colors!
Love this! These are the colours that appeal to me as well. Happy, yet peaceful.
Can’t wait to start another one! 🙂
The quilt is beautiful! I love the combination of colors that you used.
I think I’ll have fun quilting it! 🙂
What a sunshine-y quilt!
Ha! That’s a fun way to say it! 🙂 Thanks for your kind comment!
It looks so friendly and happy! And I think the handquilting will look awesome. 🙂
Thank you! That’s just the look I was going for! 🙂
It’s beautiful! Yellow is my favorite color. I like that you show how to cut those squares in half…very neat.
I always quilt on a budget, as I rarely buy materials new. I look at the second hand stores and yard sales. Some of my stash is given to me. In fact, one of the gals that works at the quilt shop sent me an email this morning and told me she has some fabric for me out of her stash in the drawer at the shop.
Thats fantastic! I also go to thrift stores frequently in search of fabrics and sewing supplies. It’s fun to find some vintage fabrics!
Like so many of your readers, I love this color combination. You put it all together beautifully.

Thanks, Lillian! 🙂
Thanks for stopping by Freshly Pieced and for your nice comments.
I think your Quilt on a Budget is lovely. I’ve used that pattern before and it always does show off the fabric so well. As far as quilting it, I’m a fan of all-over pattern quilting, so I have my quilter do it. You might think about going diagonally across the top in 1 1/2″ lines, making a cross-hatch design, but I’m also a fan of outlining the seaming on quilts (kind of traditional, but that’s okay!).

Thank you for your kind comment! I also appreciate your ideas and tips on the quilting 🙂
Beautiful colors !!
What a lovely quilt ! I did not know this particular pattern, well worth trying. I love your choice of materials too. Bravo !
Lovely, I love the colors too.. so bright!
I love yellow and blue together. Very nice!
Love this post! I’m a basic quilter– don’t think my corners all match as well as yours. But fun to see your step by step plan. I think it’s so relaxing to sit in front of the t.v. too and quilt away. I have one almost done for my daughter and son-in-law. Been quilting on it since summer. Love the yellow-green-blue color combination of your quilt. Think it’s harder than it looks to pick just the right fabrics. anyway, thanks for the fun post!
Q – I’ve been wanting to make a “yellow brick road” type of quilt for years. I have the patterns, just need to get off my duff and do it!
