My husband brought me roses recently…

There was no special occasion…

He just wanted to brighten my day,
Remind me that he loves me.

I’ve been dealing with some personal things lately,
needing to intentionally focus on the Lord
and not on my frustrations/problems/pain…
It’s not easy, nor a five-minute, “Ok, I’ve got it” type of thing…
It’s a constant, giving-it-over-to-God, type of thing,
an act of the will that says, “I trust in you, Lord”.

I am blessed, more than most people;
I’m always aware of that,
and I try not to take it for granted.
Even right after my mother passed away,
I kept reminding myself that I was blessed to have
such a mother for 23 years…most people don’t even have
that blessing.
You see, there’s always something to be thankful for.
I grieved, but at the same time, I knew that I had been blessed.

I don’t know why I wrote all this… I just let myself type
and stopped deleting entire sentences.
I guess I’ll hit the “publish” button and not worry too much
whether someone will find it boring, objectionable, or read it at all.

I thank the Lord for a fresh new week ahead, “with no mistakes in in”,
as Anne Shirley would say, and I look forward to all the blessings
God has in store. 🙂

Have a blessed week!
xoxo

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? …You of little faith! Do not worry then… for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”  Matthew 6:30-33

I found a new Farmer’s Market not too far from where I live…

img_1547

The produce is so fresh and such a great variety!

img_1548-1

These radishes are delicious.  I put them in salads,
but most of the time I just eat them raw as a snack.
Is that strange??

img_1552

Huge tomatoes, so good!

img_1549-2

I couldn’t believe how sweet the grapes were!!

img_1551

The peppers were 2 for $1
I roast them in the oven and put them in salsas
or to flavor soups.

Delicious!!

img_1553

Cilantro, parsley, greens…  big bunches

img_1556

This Farmer’s Market also has a “Flea Market” section.
I bought hibiscus, azalea, and each one was only $6.

img_1555

My favorite buy was the Orchids!
I got four different kinds and they were each $3!!!

They make great Christmas gifts.
I wanted to keep them, but then I figured
I could just get some more after Christmas.

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody!

I realized once again today,
that very often God uses what I call “Pictorial Lessons”

to remind me of something,
to teach me something,
to help me see things clearer or in a new perspective… etc…

DSC_0046

I can remember times when I sat by the shore of the ocean
by myself, watching the sun rise (or set)…

Some of those times I poured out my heart to God,
and later, when I got up to leave, I felt I had been in His presence.
He had “heard my cry” as the Bible states, and I felt
Comforted.
Strengthened.
Even filled with peace
and joy.

DSC_0075

The ocean… the sun rising or setting on the horizon,
the little sand birds running away from the waves
only to turn around and run towards it again….
So much like children running around, playing and laughing.

DSC_0065
The rising & setting of the sun reminding me of the faithfulness
and steadfastness of God.
Many of us have experienced times when we were grieved or heart-broken…
It’s tempting to blame God.
But that is neither true, nor what will bring us healing or
help us to overcome and continue on…

DSC_0130

The mountains that remind me that He is my strength..

“I love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Psalms 18:1-2

Hiking in the mountains and suddenly coming upon a small waterfall, a river, a lake…
It is a reminder (another “Pictorial Lesson”) for me:
“For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.” Jeremiah 31:25

Oh, Lord, sometimes I’m weary and I need your strength.
Refresh my heart;
Strengthen me.

Looking at the mountain ridges, and seeing the beautiful colors…
I’m reminded that God is the magnificent Creator
and we are His most prized creation…
“I have loved you with an everlasting love”  Jeremiah 31:3

Sometimes I don’t feel so loved and appreciated, Lord;
Thank you for reminding me that You have always loved me
and
you
always
will.

                         ****************************

He has created beautiful things for us to enjoy
and to bring us joy
“Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.”  Psalm 96:6

Here are a few examples:

Children . . . they always make me smile
and remind me of Your tenderness towards me.

Flowers – what a wonderful array of colors and smells –
Oh, Lord, I marvel at Your amazing attention to detail.

Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,
Psalm 105:4-5

I pray this was of encouragement to you
as it was to me.

My husband & I recently celebrated out 30th wedding anniversary!!

…to celebrate, we planned a very special trip,
however, things don’t always go as planned,
and I found myself in the ER just two days before
we were scheduled to leave on our trip.

I am so thankful that it was nothing serious and I am recovering.
If you’ve ever been in the ER,
especially if you have a lot of pain,
all kinds of thoughts want to rush in
and fill your mind with visions of what could happen…
It’s not easy to keep those thoughts from taking over.

I thank God that I felt his peace,
His comfort,
and his strength.
…and that I was happily released about 5 hours later!!

We didn’t exactly get to go on the trip we wanted,
but we did go to a nice place and get some fresh air
up in the Blue Ridge Mountains…

We went on a hike and I’d like to show you
some of the things we saw…

It was hard to walk past the pretty flowers
without stopping to take 5-105 photographs…
My husband is a very patient man.

Looking forward to all God has for us!

Recently,  my husband got me a gift…

July 2013 166

I was very surprised, since it was HIS birthday, not mine.

July 2013 138

It was beautiful… a dozen red roses, each one a masterpiece.

July 2013 162

I smelled them, gazed at them, took many, many photos of them.

July 2013 154

I don’t particularly like the color red.  I own very few items (maybe 2 or 3) that are red.
But…
How can I not like these??
Together they make a truly amazing display.

July 2013 132

July 2013 134

I didn’t have any place to put them except for this glass jar I bought at an antique store…

I’m learning to look at the details…
They can be beautiful, too.

July 2013 194

July 2013 195

My husband is always thinking of me, how to make me laugh, bring me joy…
Every time I looked over at the roses, I couldn’t help smiling.
Even now…

July 2013 116

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but one of the things I’ve been
re-learning this year is that, “Actions speak louder than words.”

Let your loved ones know you care.
In our house, we say the words, “I love you” many times a day to each other…
But somehow when we do something totally unexpected,
it speaks so loudly,
and unforgettably.

Have fun thinking up ways to surprise your loved ones!

(Let me know how it goes :))

During our time away,  (I posted about it  here) one of the places we were able to visit was an old farm, way up in the mountains. . .

DSC_0450

This is the marker at the top of the hill:

DSC_0451

A closer look, so you can read it:

DSC_0452

This is the farm house.  We weren’t able to go inside because the park rangers weren’t there, but we were able to walk around and see everything.  We did peek inside the windows. . . everything looked just as if time had stood still back in the 1880’s.

DSC_0468

Here’s a view from the porch.  I just love porch swings.  Makes me think of family & friends, children’s laughter, ice-cold lemonade. . .

DSC_0476

There were several gardens with many, many butterflies. . .

DSC_0469

They were everywhere!

DSC_0470

Here are some beautiful ones . . .

DSC_0491_2

DSC_0491

I love barns.  Maybe I’ll live in a Barn House someday – they’re becoming more popular now.
DSC_0464

DSC_0465

The flowers were beautiful. . .

DSC_0485

Wild flowers as well…

DSC_0505

As we approached the Chicken House, we heard them inside. . . We also heard a rooster several times.
I love the sounds of a farm!  Can you tell I live in the city??

DSC_0479

The root cellar (I could almost see the veggies stored there, as this was used over so many years!)

DSC_0480

There were many tiny birds.  So beautiful.

DSC_0494

A few were perched on the clothes line.  That’s right.  There was a clothes line.  That’s another thing I miss while living in the city.  I never thought I’d say that!  When I was a kid, my Mom would tell me to hang the clothes up on the line.  Inevitably, it would rain before I had a chance to run and take them inside!  I used to wish for a dryer.   Now that I have one, I miss both my Mom and the assigned chore of hanging the laundry on the clothes line.

DSC_0497

While we were there,  someone was working on the garden, planting & weeding.  This bench was among the fragrant flowers…

DSC_0477

These are the stairs to go back up to the parking area.  I didn’t want to leave.  I wanted to stay and visit the country folks and have a nice tall glass of lemonade with them.  What was it like for the folks who lived on this farm?  How did they get up & down the steep mountain paths with no car or truck?  How did they survive with no TV, internet, or cell phone?  It was a simpler time.  But it wasn’t an easy time.  These people knew back-breaking work, and plenty of heart aches.  They probably never would have imagined that well over one hundred years later, there’d be “tourists” visiting their farm, admiring their work & perseverance.

DSC_0504

It was an unforgettable experience.  I can still feel the cool mountain breeze.

These are the kind of places that stay with me for a long, long time.  By that, I guess I mean that when I remember them, when i see the photos, I can’t help but smile and want to visit again.

Thanks for visiting with me.  🙂

Love to you all,

Daisy
