For my birthday this year, my daughter gave me a set of fat quarter fabrics…
(that’s kind of a funny name, right?)
Fat quarter is just a name for a piece of fabric cut into 18″ x 21″.
I think…
These are the different fabrics. They look great together, don’t they?!
She bought this set at Walmart… they have some really nice fabrics lately.
(I don’t work for Walmart, this isn’t an ad!! I’m just a happy recipient) 🙂
I cut each piece into jelly roll strips (2 1/2 in. by the width of the fabric)…
and sewed them in two’s.
Aren’t they pretty colors? I probably would’ve never chosen this grouping but the more I worked with them, the more I liked them!
Then I cut those long strips into 2 1/2 inch strips
and separated them into little stacks
so that I could put them together “randomly” on purpose 🙂
Here’s what it looked like when I sewed two of those together…
I got a square of four different but coordinating fabrics.
I kept thinking, “Cute!”
I had some pretty white fabric that had a very light printing on it…
you’d have to click on the picture in order to see it.
I didn’t want just a solid plain white. This one worked perfectly!
I “practiced” how I wanted to sew these squares together…
I liked the way they looked “on point”, so…
I sewed the white squares and the four-squares into long strips, labeling them by numbers so I could later put the strips in order,
and hung them on a hanger to keep them “organized”.
This is how it looked when it was all sewn, close up.
I still have to decide how I want to finish it…
What kind of border?
Backing?
Quilting?
But it was so much fun to put together!
Thanks to my daughter for such a thoughtful gift 🙂
If you have any suggestions, I’d be thrilled to hear them!
Happy Quilting,
Daisy
Just lovely. And orange and yellow are not my favorite colors. I so admire quilters. I’ve made two–many years ago. I loved making the tops, but the quilting part got me down….I love seeing the ingenious way you put them together.
Thanks so much! …What happened to your quilts? Did you finish them and are you using them now? 🙂
These were some really pretty fabrics that you put together just right. Anxious to see what you do with the borders.

Thanks, Lillian. I may not be able to finish it until January since I’m working on Christmas gifts now, but I’ll be sure and post a photo of the finished product 🙂
Beautifully put together! Maybe solid fabrics of each color in the printed fabrics sewed together forming strips for the border. I’m not a quilter, and this might not be right. I’m sure you will come up with a beautiful border as the quilt. Be creative, and you will like it. All the best, Mtetar
I like strips, too; I think solid colors is the way to go here on the border. Thanks for your input!
You’re so welcome. I look forward to the beautiful completion. Mtetar
This is turning out very lovely! Your daughter has a great eye for color and your choice of pattern is perfect … good team work! I would repeat white and one of the dark colors in the border ( the blue?). I’m sure whatever you choose will look great!
Blessings ~ Wendy
I think the white and the blue in the border is a great idea! Thanks 🙂
I love what you did! A few years back every time the quilting fabrics were on sale my cousin and I would buy a half yard of everything we liked and cut them in to a fat quarter for each of us. I think I have close to 200 fat quarters! I think I will try this quilt- it is so pretty! -Laurie
Wow!! 200 fat quarters is enough to do not one but several quilts! What fun! I really enjoy the process of choosing and coordinating fabrics before sewing the quilt together. Have fun with your project!! 🙂
Very pretty, so fresh and bright. Thanks for walking through the process. The fabrics do work great together. Thanks for stopping by “I Am with you always”
Thanks for your kind comment. Hope you come again! 🙂
The quilts are absolutely beautiful!
Thanks, Sheryl! I’ve got some I’m planning for next year… fun! 🙂
What a lovely bright and cheerful quilt!
Thanks! I didn’t think I’d like these colors together, but I really liked how they worked together. It’s fun to try new combinations. 🙂
LOVE IT! I have just started tying and backing quilt tops I find online, or at yard sales. I am working up the nerve to start my own quilt top! That is beautiful work you have done! How bout a nice BIG floral print on the back, with cotton batting 🙂 Post more when it’s finished!
I like your idea of the nice big floral print on the back… I’ll have to look in my fabric stash! Thanks for your kind comment!
Your daisy blocks are so appealing, with just the right combination of orange, blue, and green. Spring is coming!
Yes, it’s hard to believe that Spring is not far away!
Lovely color combos…. nice work!
Very nice…lovely color combination and theme.
Oh, how lovely! I just love that fabric! Your choice for the white is really right! Plain white would have been boring, the one you picked really fits with the style of the coloured fabrics. I would love a Walmart near me…..
