Old Hymn, very timely for today…
Leading up to this Christmas, the words to this ancient hymn have been playing over and over in my head…
Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus
Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.
Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
Amen!

Have a blessed weekend!

I’ve always loved this hymn — from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee… so beautiful. Thanks for reminding me of it in the midst of busy-ness.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know! 🙂
I thought I knew most of the old Methodist (and Baptist) hymns, but I didn’t know this one. I went to YouTube and played several versions – love the lyrics.

That’s exactly what I did about 2 weeks ago… been a blessing to me as each day I’m reminded of the words.
Thank you for sharing, old yet much needed. Have a Blessed Season now, and always. Mtetar
Thank you! and you have a blessed Christmas as well!
You’re welcome. Mtetar
It’s beautiful! I also wasn’t familiar with this hymn until I read your post.
I had not heard it in many years and it was my son who told me it was one of his favorites…I looked it up on Youtube and found several renditions… but the lyrics is what I really like.
Lovely Christmas decorations! And I just love the rich words in the old hymns… we learn them in our homeschool.

That’s wonderful, Wendy! My children, who are now married, still remember many of the old hymns they learned when in being home schooled. Thanks for your comment…it’s always nice to hear from you! 🙂
