I have so much fun going into antique stores…
I was able to find this large magazine ad, along with several others (I’ll be posting them soon), for sewing patterns. Β For those of you who love vintage or old sewing patterns, I thought this would be fun to see.
Happy hunting,
Daisy
So Elegant! But I notice you had to be tall and slim back then as well… Sigh…
I love the little white gloves… wish they would come back in style!
This is very fun. Yes, post more π
Ha! I will soon! π
Daisy, I am one of those “loves all things old” people. Often I find uses for old stuff. I have been using an old barber brush for dusting – but recently I found out it might be worth a weekend away… I told our kids not to just get rid of stuff but to have an appraiser check over our junk, first, for an auction. I love to donate stuff to Salvation Army and that’s where I find treasures too. Thanks for my vintage fix of the day! π

I know what you mean about loving “all things old”. I especially like hearing the history of those old items. When I was very young I used to think that I was born during the wrong century because I just loved hearing about the American frontier and the pioneers that went west on the Oregon Trail and so on. All that free land! The fashions, the one-room school house, one church, neighbors helping during a barn raising… I could go on and on. π
Daisy, your words remind me of the”Little House on the Prairie” books. Have you ever read them or watched the old tv series based on those books? The kids and I read them a few years ago…
Yes! Many years ago we were traveling through Minnesota and came across “Walnut Grove”! There was a small museum and we saw many of the places Laura describes in her book, including Plum Creek. It was fun! I read her books and my daughter did as well. There’s a fun cookbook with the recipes she talks about in her books.
Vintage patterns are so much fun!.I absolutely love this pattern.
It’s fun to see how many of those styles are slowly coming back! I have actually bought some new patterns to make for my daughter which are part of a “Vintage/Retro” section of the pattern books. Now if only the hats and gloves would also come back in style! π
What a great find! The only patterns I’ve been coming across lately in my thrifting have been from the 80s and 90s…not quite “vintage” enough to sway me to buy them. But your find looks super cute! Do you think you’ll make it?
I have several that I will definitely be making for my daughter… Fun! This one is not a pattern but a large magazine advertisement. It’s about 15″x 8″. I found several in an antique store in North Carolina and was so excited when I saw them! I’m planning to frame them and use them to decorate my sewing room. Every time I look at them I just have to smile. π
Put me on the list with all the above antique store fans. Although, I do think there are better antiques in the east than there are here in California! Growing up, my grandmother made all our clothes–so she had piles of old patterns and I kept a few. When my daughter Ani got married 3 years ago, we found that vogue had current “retro patterns” of 1950’s styles and my sis made Ani’s dress from one of them. All that to say, thanks for the peek at the pattern you found– Love your blog.
Thank you for such a kind comment – I’m so glad you enjoy this blog! My daughter & I have also bought some of those new retro patterns that are just coming out. I wait for the sales (usually holidays) when I can get them for $1 or $2. It’s also fun to look for new “vintage” fabrics that are becoming very popular for sewing and quilting… most fabric companies now have a whole line of 30’s & 40’s reproduction fabrics. Old is new again! π
I definitely remember making and wearing a dress similar to the one on the left – and I did wear the hat and white gloves, too.

How fun, Lillian! I bet you looked beautiful!
They don’t make clothes like they used to! I think there was so much more style in the 40’s and 50’s than you see now!
They certainly had a lot more details such as darts, ruffles, decorative buttons, etc. It’s nice that most of the pattern companies are bringing back some of their retro patterns. That’ll be fun to sew! π
I like the vintages style they give A well dressed look. Mtetar
