image(The view from the hotel lobby!)

This wasn’t my first time in Colorado, but oh…
How beautiful the mountains all around!

Every morning when we came down to the lobby for breakfast,
the view was spectacular.

I guess people who live here are pretty much used to it
and don’t pay much attention to it…
But I couldn’t take my eyes off the beauty!  🙂

When I lived close to the Smoky Mountains,
I never got “used” to it.

Every time I went outside, I couldn’t help but smile.
The fall colors!  The Spring!  The summer greens!
It didn’t snow except maybe twice a year,
but everything looked so beautiful!

During the week in Colorado,
the temperatures were pretty cold (at least for me!)
But I walked across the street to a shopping area
where I had lunch everyday.
It was 26* and windy, so I was cold!

I didn’t take my “real” camera with me,
but I managed to get this photo with my cell phone.

I spent the week in a personal prayer retreat during the mornings.
Those times of pulling away from everything
and just being alone with God
was something I longed for.
I feel like it’s “recharging”, literally.

In the evenings, my husband & I got together with friends
for some wonderful times of fellowship.
It was fun and refreshing to spend time with them,
since we rarely get the chance to just relax together
and not be problem-solving or counseling for
serious situations.

It was a blessed time and I’m so thankful I was able to go!

Now it’s back to “real life” but every now & then I remember,
and I just smile.

Happy Thursday, everyone!
xoxo

Time stands still

It’s been a while since my last post.

I just couldn’t bring myself to write.
Anything.

I tried to “suck it up”, talk myself into posting,
maybe write about something like what I usually do —
photography, cooking, sewing, …
but I just couldn’t do it.

My youngest granddaughter, who is doing fine now,
was in the Pediatric ICU.

unnamed

I don’t want to dwell on all that happened those days
but it was heart-wrenching, literally.

We are so very thankful and grateful
that she is doing fine.
Words cannot express it.
I still cry sometimes when I see a new picture of her
that my daughter texts me, or a video of how she’s
laughing and chatting away.
Even now, as I write, I find myself overcome with tears.
So thankful for her life.

Some of you may know what I’m talking about when I say
there are pictures in our minds that we try to forget,
mainly seeing loved ones suffer.
Again, I’m so thankful she’s doing fine.
I try to replace those images from the hospital
with new ones from this past week, yesterday, today…
She’s growing so fast and she’s so cute,
I pick up my phone and scroll through videos
and photos, making new memories with her.

It’s really amazing how a little person,
so young, so small,
so wonderful,
can become so loved and such an important part
of what makes our heart flip with joy
whenever they smile at us
or laugh at one of our silly faces.

unnamed

Please pray for her continued healing.

Thank you to those of you who wrote me
and let me know that you missed me.
It meant a lot to me.

I will post as much as I can the next few weeks.

I pray your December is filled with many blessings!

Last week I was tired and felt a little like Heidi…
(she missed the mountains and the great outdoors!)

So…
My husband & I drove to the nearest beach
and took a walk…

It might seem like it’s night time in this photo,
but actually, it’s early morning on the beach.

The skies were cloudy,
so even though the sun had technically risen,
it wasn’t as sunny as a “normal” sunrise.

All I had was my cell phone,
but I wanted to take some pictures.

The little birds were just waking up, it seemed.

If you click on this photo above, and zoom in,
you can see a line of birds flying just above the water.

IMG_0541

The sound of the waves, the water between our toes,
the breeze…
Ahhh.

This is what I needed.

IMG_0540

Ever so slowly, it began to get a little brighter…

“You rule the swelling of the sea.”  Psalms 89:9

We walked for a mile and a half.

In some places, close to hotels,
the workers had begun to set up
umbrellas & chairs for rentals.

In a few hours, this place would be
crowded with  lots & lots of people.

But for now, it was just a few, here & there,
walking, some jogging, some riding their bicycles.

By the time we had turned around and returned to where we had started,
it was much brighter.

And so it was for me.

Take time to go outside and enjoy it.

Have a terrific weekend,

Daisy

I took my blood pressure today in one of those machines they have set up at the pharmacy center in the nearby Walmart…

I’ve done this many times in different pharmacies, stores, etc…

My doctor wanted me to keep tabs on my blood pressure
and check it regularly.

unnamed

While the test is going on, there’s a video of a nice lady
telling you what to expect,
(“the cuff on your arm is going to tighten”)…
she’s very polite and nice.

I sat there taking the test today
(repeating to myself, “Relaaax, R-E-S-T, Relaaax…”)
and trying to think of sweet, peaceful thoughts
(so my blood pressure will be lower —
I wonder if that really works??)

As I felt the cuff tightening considerably on my arm,
I actually listened to what the nice lady
was saying in the video…
It went something like this, “If the pressure is too much,
just hit the stop button and the test will stop immediately.”

She was, of course, referring to the tightening of the cuff
on the arm during the blood pressure test.

But in my profoundly thoughtful mood,
I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t it be nice if sometimes
we could do that in life?
When there’s a “test” going on and my “arm” is
getting too tight for comfort,
just hit the stop button and immediately the cuff
begins to deflate and my arm feels so much better.
Then I could go on my merry way and my arm
won’t hurt anymore.

There is, of course, no such “stop button”.

but I looked up some words that help me…

“Truly, my soul waits upon God;
from Him comes my salvation.
He only is my Rock and my Salvation,
He is my defense;
I shall not be greatly moved.
My soul, wait thou only upon God
for my expectation is from Him
In God is my salvation and my glory:
the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times; ye people,
pour out your heart before him:
God is a refuge for us.”  Psalm 62:1,2,7,8

I pray you’re doing great.
But just in case you’re feeling overwhelmed,
I pray those words will encourage your heart
and bring you joy.

I’ve been sick for over a week and haven’t been able to do much, but…

I can not let today go by without posting.

It is the reason why there exists hope
The reason why we can go on in the midst of trials,
grief, hard times.

He lives.

The angel said to the women,
“Do not be afraid;
for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified.
He is not here,
for He has risen,
just as He said.
Come, see the place where He was lying. ”
Matt. 28:5-7

I don’t know if you’ve seen this before,
but it’s one of my favorites from way back.
If you haven’t seen it,
you’re in for a treat.

A blessed Easter to you all,

Daisy

I realized once again today,
that very often God uses what I call “Pictorial Lessons”

to remind me of something,
to teach me something,
to help me see things clearer or in a new perspective… etc…

DSC_0046

I can remember times when I sat by the shore of the ocean
by myself, watching the sun rise (or set)…

Some of those times I poured out my heart to God,
and later, when I got up to leave, I felt I had been in His presence.
He had “heard my cry” as the Bible states, and I felt
Comforted.
Strengthened.
Even filled with peace
and joy.

DSC_0075

The ocean… the sun rising or setting on the horizon,
the little sand birds running away from the waves
only to turn around and run towards it again….
So much like children running around, playing and laughing.

DSC_0065
The rising & setting of the sun reminding me of the faithfulness
and steadfastness of God.
Many of us have experienced times when we were grieved or heart-broken…
It’s tempting to blame God.
But that is neither true, nor what will bring us healing or
help us to overcome and continue on…

The mountains that remind me that He is my strength..

“I love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Psalms 18:1-2

Hiking in the mountains and suddenly coming upon a small waterfall, a river, a lake…
It is a reminder (another “Pictorial Lesson”) for me:
“For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.” Jeremiah 31:25

Oh, Lord, sometimes I’m weary and I need your strength.
Refresh my heart;
Strengthen me.

Looking at the mountain ridges, and seeing the beautiful colors…
I’m reminded that God is the magnificent Creator
and we are His most prized creation…
“I have loved you with an everlasting love”  Jeremiah 31:3

Sometimes I don’t feel so loved and appreciated, Lord;
Thank you for reminding me that You have always loved me
and
you
always
will.

He has created beautiful things for us to enjoy
and to bring us joy
“Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.”  Psalm 96:6

Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,

I pray this was of encouragement to you
as it was to me.
