“…God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.”
Psalm 73:26

Have a blessed Sunday!

I realized once again today,
that very often God uses what I call “Pictorial Lessons”

to remind me of something,
to teach me something,
to help me see things clearer or in a new perspective… etc…

DSC_0046

I can remember times when I sat by the shore of the ocean
by myself, watching the sun rise (or set)…

Some of those times I poured out my heart to God,
and later, when I got up to leave, I felt I had been in His presence.
He had “heard my cry” as the Bible states, and I felt
Comforted.
Strengthened.
Even filled with peace
and joy.

The ocean… the sun rising or setting on the horizon,
the little sand birds running away from the waves
only to turn around and run towards it again….
So much like children running around, playing and laughing.

DSC_0065
The rising & setting of the sun reminding me of the faithfulness
and steadfastness of God.
Many of us have experienced times when we were grieved or heart-broken…
It’s tempting to blame God.
But that is neither true, nor what will bring us healing or
help us to overcome and continue on…

The mountains that remind me that He is my strength..

“I love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  Psalms 18:1-2

Hiking in the mountains and suddenly coming upon a small waterfall, a river, a lake…
It is a reminder (another “Pictorial Lesson”) for me:
“For I satisfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes.” Jeremiah 31:25

Oh, Lord, sometimes I’m weary and I need your strength.
Refresh my heart;
Strengthen me.

Looking at the mountain ridges, and seeing the beautiful colors…
I’m reminded that God is the magnificent Creator
and we are His most prized creation…
“I have loved you with an everlasting love”  Jeremiah 31:3

Sometimes I don’t feel so loved and appreciated, Lord;
Thank you for reminding me that You have always loved me
and
you
always
will.

                         ****************************

He has created beautiful things for us to enjoy
and to bring us joy
“Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.”  Psalm 96:6

Here are a few examples:

Children . . . they always make me smile
and remind me of Your tenderness towards me.

Flowers – what a wonderful array of colors and smells –
Oh, Lord, I marvel at Your amazing attention to detail.

Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,
Psalm 105:4-5

I pray this was of encouragement to you
as it was to me.

I’ve heard it said many times…  “You don’t appreciate something until you don’t have it anymore.”

like…

…you don’t appreciate good health until you no longer have it.

…you don’t truly appreciate a loved one until they’re gone.

Today is a special day.  Independence Day.  The fourth of July.

…and that old saying comes to mind.

For those who have been born here and have never lived
under an oppressive government,
it’s easy to take our American freedom for granted.

The freedom to say, do, go, think, plan, study, buy, eat, whatever you want
is something we don’t even think about.  It is the way of life here.

It seems hard to believe that there are countries where you cannot speak freely,
you cannot visit anyone you like,
you can’t travel wherever/whenever you like,
you can’t study what interests you,
you can’t plan to have a birthday party or dinner party,
you can’t just buy something you really like,
you can’t own your own business,
You can’t kill one of your own chickens/hogs/cattle,
You can’t own your own land,
All mail is read before you receive it.
“Courts of law” are just a group of local government sympathizers
You live in a constant state of not knowing what can happen
to you or your loved ones from one day
to the next.
It is the way of life there.

No freedom.  Only oppression.  Persecution.

DSC_0097
Now, when someone who has lived for years in a regime like that,
arrives in the USA…
words cannot describe what they feel.

It’s as if someone who was born in a prison, with no hope of ever getting out,
was given their freedom.

They can now dream, hope, plan, work, live
in a very different world.

For those who have not had this experience
it is almost impossible to know what it feels like.
Don’t even try to tell them that America is messed up.
Don’t talk about how bad things are here and how wonderful
everywhere else is.
They know it isn’t perfect here, but…
they remember what life was like where they came from.
They are like the grateful children who have been adopted,
and they know their adoptive parents
are good people who have taken care of them and raised them
to think for themselves, work hard, dream, fly.
These are the kids that know their parents aren’t perfect,
but they appreciate them and all they have given them.

They are proud to be Americans now.
They love this country.
Some of them have been part of the US military for most of their lives.
They are proud to serve and fight to preserve those freedoms
they once lived without.

They know what we celebrate on the 4th of July every year since 1776.

This is a special day to them.

And every year they remember.

Happy Independence Day, everybody!

Daisy

Do you ever feel like you just need some quiet time?

unnamed

(Photo taken inside  an 1800s church)
There were no microphones here, no Powerpoint, … not even electricity.

Yet,
the people gathered here and worshipped God.
All they had was each other and the Bible.
They read.  They prayed together.  They encouraged one another.
Made me realize once again…
we don’t need all the “bells and whistles” we feel so necessary today.

I guess all we need is a hunger for God.

Just thinking…

Have a blessed weekend everybody.
Love to you all,
Daisy

I’ve been wanting to start an art journal for a while now.

20140227-104044.jpg

I want to combine journaling, art, scrapbooking…

20140227-104143.jpg

I tried not to complicate it or overthink it too much, (I usually do)…
Just wanted to have fun with it.

I love putting little cards inside small envelopes with pretty pics and a quote on the back. (Like in the picture above)

20140227-104307.jpg

This first entry was on Life…
Embracing that abundant life that Jesus talked about.

20140227-104407.jpg

20140227-104428.jpg

Every day is part of the journey.
Every day should be cherished.

20140227-104542.jpg

Journaling is therapeutic for me. So is doodling, art, coloring, gluing little pieces of fabric/paper/beads…
I was the kid who looked forward to buying school supplies every year. (I still am!!)

Have a fantastic day everybody!
May your journey be a blessed one!
Love to you all,
Daisy

Recently,  my husband got me a gift…

July 2013 166

I was very surprised, since it was HIS birthday, not mine.

July 2013 138

It was beautiful… a dozen red roses, each one a masterpiece.

July 2013 162

I smelled them, gazed at them, took many, many photos of them.

July 2013 154

I don’t particularly like the color red.  I own very few items (maybe 2 or 3) that are red.
But…
How can I not like these??
Together they make a truly amazing display.

July 2013 132

July 2013 134

I didn’t have any place to put them except for this glass jar I bought at an antique store…

I’m learning to look at the details…
They can be beautiful, too.

July 2013 194

July 2013 195

My husband is always thinking of me, how to make me laugh, bring me joy…
Every time I looked over at the roses, I couldn’t help smiling.
Even now…

July 2013 116

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it before, but one of the things I’ve been
re-learning this year is that, “Actions speak louder than words.”

Let your loved ones know you care.
In our house, we say the words, “I love you” many times a day to each other…
But somehow when we do something totally unexpected,
it speaks so loudly,
and unforgettably.

Have fun thinking up ways to surprise your loved ones!

(Let me know how it goes :))

Today, in honor of Father’s Day, I’d like to mention my father.

DSC_0071

He has been an inspiration and a joy to me my whole life.

When I was just a toddler, he left his country to bring his family (my Mom, my brother, and me) to a country in which he did not know one single person and could not speak the language.  He gave up the career he was studying back in his country and signed up for some English language classes and a program in the nearest technical/career school.  He graduated from both and though he did not become wealthy, he was successful in his field and was able to provide for his family.  He is a hard worker and is also one of the kindest and most generous men I know.

Growing up, not a day went by that I did not know for certain that my Dad loved me.  The older I get, the more I realize what a tremendous gift that was.  I thank God for my father, and my desire is to show him everyday that I love him, too.  I call him every single day, we chat for a bit, and always end every conversation by saying, “I love you”.

I feel very blessed and thank God everyday that my Dad is still healthy.  I almost lost him many years ago and he was miraculously healed.  I often tell people not to take their loved ones for granted.  Cherish them.  Call them.  Tell them over & over how much you love them.

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

I know I just posted a photo of a horse I met on a little country road…

but I couldn’t wait to share these pictures with you…

image

My husband and I were on our way to a church picnic…

I had no idea that we would be way out in the country…

But as we drove in, I couldn’t believe my eyes!

There were lots of cows, chickens, and these two beautiful horses!

I immediately took out my camera and began taking pictures.
The cows didn’t like me too much, they actually scared me.
But the horses were very nice and weren’t camera-shy.

If you’re from the city, a day in the country can be literally “a breath of fresh air”.
For me, it’s usually like taking a trip back in time.
A slower pace.
Time to reflect.
No signal… so no cell phone calls.
I can feel the stress begin to fade away.

If you’re with a loved one, or with a friend, it can be so special.
Or even if you’re by yourself, it can be a time for refreshing.
The breeze, the sounds of the outdoors in the background.

There’s something about getting away from the noise and distractions we are used to,
and going outdoors where we can slow down, be quiet, enjoy the ancient art of talking
to one another (instead of texting, or using the social media).

If you get the chance anytime soon,
to go out to the country…
go for it.
Enjoy the quiet, and the scenery.

Happy refreshing!

Daisy
