Photo Drive

I’ve shared before how I enjoy walks through parks and rural areas.

Well, I also like to go on what I call photo drives.

I try to be careful how close I get and I always stay in the car… (I don’t want to get shot by an angry “neighbor”!)

Here’s just a few photos I took on a recent photo drive…

DSC_0101

A very serious look.  I wonder what they’re thinking…

Certainly not inviting me to come for a closer look.

DSC_0098

They had a friend close by…

probably saying, “Don’t worry, bud… I got your back!”

DSC_0084

Not far were some pretty horses…

DSC_0085

And a pony.

DSC_0092

These two were giving each other some TLC…

DSC_0091

I thought it was funny how one of them kept their eye on me the entire time.

DSC_0086

This beautiful horse was all by itself…

DSC_0088

It was far away but the scene was so peaceful…
I didn’t want to disturb it.

It’s fun to go on a relaxing “scenic” drive.  For me, it’s therapeutic, really.

Enjoy your part of the country… whether covered in snow, or sunny and green.
Take a photo drive (preferably someone else driving so you can take pictures) and enjoy the scenery.

Happy Weekend,

Daisy

I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite authors, Amy Carmichael.
She was born in 1867 in Northern Ireland and became a missionary to India.

This is one of my favorites of her poems…

Flame of God

From prayer that asks that I may be
Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,
From fearing when I should aspire,
From faltering when I should climb higher
From silken self, O Captain, free
Thy soldier who would follow Thee.

From subtle love of softening things,
From easy choices, weakenings,
(Not thus are spirits fortified,
Not this way went the Crucified)
From all that dims Thy Calvary
O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,
The faith that nothing can dismay
The hope no disappointments tire,
The passion that will burn like fire;
Let me not sink to be a clod;
Make me Thy fuel, Flame of God

Fun Gifts

For Christmas this year, I got some fun, unexpected gifts…

My daughter gave me this:

DSC_0027

It appears to be a camera lens.  In fact, it looks almost identical to MY camera lens.

But it’s not a lens…

DSC_0029

It’s a mug!  Stainless steel inside, nice twist-off cap…

DSC_0028

Which again, looks exactly like my lens cover.

DSC_0031

It’s very nice to use for either coffee or hot tea…
or hot chocolate,
or a latte…

you get the idea.

DSC_0038

It comes in its own little bag (just like the real thing)!

DSC_0043

She also gave me a subscription to Popular Photography!  So much fun to look through and learn from their articles.  But no pressure, right?  I’m still just an amateur 🙂

Well, if you know someone who enjoys photography… here’s two ideas for gifts.  I’m sure they’ll love it!  🙂

Happy Saturday!

Pink Blooms

I have not posted in 11 days…
I’ve missed you, friends.
First, I had to attend a training and had no internet available.
Then, 2 days ago, I had another migraine.  I’ve never had them so close together before.  But I am thankful that this time I did not have to go to the ER.

Now, on to more JOYful topics!  🙂

The place where this training was held was rural and a very pretty setting.

I was able to step outside with my camera for just a few minutes during one of the breaks and take a few photos…

DSC_0056

The color.  The delicate petals.

DSC_0055

It was not a rose bush, but it was just as beautiful…and it was covered in blooms!

DSC_0054

I only had a few minutes…

DSC_0053

I could stare at this for a while.  So beautiful.  It doesn’t have the sweet scent of a rose, but it is so lovely.

DSC_0057

The bush had so very many!  There were some that had fallen and the ground was covered with them.  Even there, they were beautiful!

Does anybody know what type of flowers these are?
I thought I could google it, but after a while, I gave up when I couldn’t find the exact match.  It’s a big bush, tall, and covered with these flowers.

It’s good to be back… Y’all have a fantastic weekend!!

Love to you,
Daisy

Color vs. Black & White

In photography today, we have so many options!

Remember the days when you had to buy either color film or Black & White??!

Then, you hoped that most of the photos on that film turned out right.
You never knew until you got those pictures developed!

Now, we have digital cameras with the screen showing us instantly what the picture we just took looks like.  We can immediately delete it or save it for later…
developing, scrap booking, putting it on canvas, or on a dvd multi-media presentation.

When I play with my photo software, (I don’t edit too often), I have a hard time deciding whether to make certain photos black & white or keep them in color.
There’s just something about black & whites… nostalgia, I guess.

Here’s an example…  they each highlight different things & give a different look…

Which one do you like??

IMG_1413

My daughter & son-in-law… we’re all having dinner together at a local restaurant.

You can tell the lighting in the place has affected the look of the photo.

IMG_1413_2

Here’s the same photo in black & white.
It gives it a different look.

Here’s a case where it was a no-brainer for me to decide…

IMG_0261

I took these pictures of my daughter, the week before her wedding, several years ago.
Here’s a color photo, nice red flowers, pretty bench.

IMG_0269

Here’s a different picture… same bench, same flowers but the waterfalls are in the background.  All I did here was leave the flowers in their original color, and everything else in black & white.  My daughter really likes the retro/vintage look, so this photo is one of her favorites.

So…

What do you think?  Do you prefer color or black & white?
When do you choose (if ever) black & white over color?

Can’t wait to hear what you think!

Happy photo shoots,

Daisy

and I’ll be posting about them.

Have a blessed Sunday!!

Then our mouth was filled with laughter
And our tongue with JOYful shouting;
Then they said among the nations,
“The LORD has done great things for them.”
Psalm 126:2

Love to you all,

Daisy

As you probably know by now, my husband & I love to take drives through the country now that we live closer to it…

You probably also know that I love historic homes and even some that may not be classified as “historic” but more like broken-down, neglected, abandoned… etc…

DSC_0031

As we drive by and I try to get a good shot of the house in a moving car…
I wonder what it looked like when it was newly constructed?

Who lived here?  Where are they now?  Why has it fallen to disrepair?
Can I buy it?  What could I do to make it look nice again?
Maybe some new windows?

DSC_0003

Some of the houses don’t look so bad… some actually look like they are being lived in (by people),

DSC_0036

I saved the best for last!
This one if by far my favorite.
But, alas, someone beat me to it… they bought this pretty house and they are working hard at bringing it back to its former glory.  I almost wish I could just walk up to them and say, “Need any help?”  But I live too far to be of much use.  I’m rooting for them, though.

They have already accomplished quite a bit and it won’t be long before this house looks amazing, like it probably looked when it was new.  Then it will be ready to welcome a new family and impress those driving by (such as myself) with its beauty!

Happy Country Driving,

Daisy

Old Hymn

Old Hymn, very timely for today…

DSC_0008

Leading up to this Christmas, the words to this ancient hymn have been playing over and over in my head…

Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus

Come, Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free;
From our fears and sins release us,
Let us find our rest in Thee.
Israel’s Strength and Consolation,
Hope of all the earth Thou art;
Dear Desire of every nation,
Joy of every longing heart.

Born Thy people to deliver,
Born a child and yet a King,
Born to reign in us forever,
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone;
By Thine all sufficient merit,
Raise us to Thy glorious throne.

Amen!

Written by Charles Wesley in 1744

Have a blessed weekend!
